Tell us about yourself.
My name is Catherine Chevrier Turbide. I am daughter of a glass blower, and I am now glass blower myself, after having studied Biology, Arts and Communications! I have taken over my father’s workshop and boutique with Sophie Bourgeois, a friend who’s also a glassblower. We now create our own pieces in our studio, located on a gorgeous island.
What draws you to the material you work with?
All the colours and the possibilities we can fin through glass fascinate me! I love how that material can be so fragile sometimes, and also so resistant. I love being able to install it indoor and outdoor.
What themes do you pursue in your work, and why have you chosen the processes that you use in your work?
Because of my islander nature, my work always talks about an islander’s perspective on different matters. It’s generally maritime-sea-related and speaks of how I live.
What is your dream project?
My dream project would be to create a “sea of glass” installation made of many huge glass waves. Those waves would be anchored on each ocean side to speak of how we all are connected through art and creativity.
What is something about you that most
people don’t know?
At first, I never wanted to be a glassblower, because that was my father’s career… but now, being a second generation of glassblower makes me so proud, I regret not to have chosen that path before!
Why are you a member of GAS?
I am member of GAS to join a bigger art community and most of all to be part of a glass community outside of my island
