Warm Shop Manager (PT, 20-25 hours/week) Starting at $20/hour
The Warm Shop Manager is responsible for studio and supply management, program planning and scheduling, and teaching students of all ages and abilities. This is an ideal position for a practicing glass artist who desires steady part time employment in a creative environment.

This position reports to the Director of Education and Outreach.

Duties include:
Lead Instructor

  • Studio instruction – Teach all levels of fusing, slumping, stained glass, and mosaic with an emphasis on safe studio practices; keep abreast of current trends and techniques in the field; commit to your own professional growth to better engage a curious, adventurous student body.
  • Curriculum planning – Collaborate with Director of Education and Outreach to create classes (from one-hour to semester-length) for all skill levels, ages youth to adult, in a range of projects and techniques, that will engage new learners and challenge established artists.
  • Visiting Artists – Help coordinate single and multi-day workshops that expand and enhance the school’s offerings.
  • Off-Campus Events – Lead or help facilitate, in coordination with the Director of Education, large group events and outreach programs.
  • Work with students, renters, and the community at large to promote the institution and our mission
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and weekly meetings with the Director of Education and Outreach

Shop Maintenance and Quality Control

  • Keep shop and equipment clean, organized, and safe; maintain and order inventory of tools and glass for sale.
  • Kiln firing – Maintain an efficient workflow; assure the scheduling and firing of student and custom work.
  • Quality Control – Inspect finished products to ensure they meet the School’s standards; address any quality issues and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Cultivate a welcoming social environment for renters and students. Facilitate shop space, equipment, and assistance that support the needs of working artists

Job Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of kiln formed glass experience
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds with capability to spend multiple hours on your feet
  • Familiarity with safety precautions, kiln programming, and glass art
  • Experience communicating and teaching a wide range of class sizes and students of all ages/backgrounds
  • Availability for 20-25 hours/week, with staffing at special events and public outreach events as needed
