2008 iNTERNATIONAL STUDENT EXHIBITON and Student scholarships

International Student Exhibition
Museum of Contemporary Craft

The International Student Exhibition invites all Glass Art Society student members who are currently enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program to participate. All work must be current, original, professionally crafted, and contain glass as the main element.

How to participate:
Deliver your student work to the Museum of Contemporary Craft,
Wednesday, June 18, 12 - 5 pm; Thursday, June 19, 9 am - 12 pm.

The official opening will be on Friday, June 20, at 4 pm. Students are encouraged to hand-carry their work to the conference. Insurance and shipment of the artwork are the responsibility of the artist. Neither GAS nor the Museum of Contemporary Craft are responsible for theft or damage to artwork. Please ensure that your work is delivered in reusable packaging.

Restrictions:
No more than ONE item may be submitted by each student.
The piece must not exceed 30 lbs. (15 kg) or 20” (50 cm) in any dimension. Installations or groupings may be submitted, but each element within the grouping must adhere to weight and size restrictions.
Clear installation instructions must accompany each work.
Proper hanging devices must also be provided for any work that requires hanging. No work will be hung on the walls or from the ceiling.

 

Awards:
Previously, more than $6,000 in cash and supplies has been awarded.

The first prize winner will receive a $1,000 cash award from The Corning Museum of Glass. All award winners will be acknowledged in the Glass Art Society 2008 Journal.

Sales:
We encourage sales at this event by cash or check made directly to GAS.
Artists will receive 80%. (Visa/MasterCard also accepted.)
Buyers must make their own arrangements for shipping work.
Payments, purchases, and all unsold artwork can be picked up Saturday, June 21, 3 - 6 pm, and Sunday, June 22, 11 am - 6 pm.
Pieces left after Sunday, June 22, 5 pm will become the property of GAS.

***ATTENTION STUDENTS: you MUST provide proof of Full-time Student status at time of conference registration - if not then you will be charged the amount current as of the date proof is received in GAS office.  NO EXCEPTIONS

STUDENT  SCHOLARSHIPS 

FULL-TIME STUDENTS PLEASE APPLY!!
Scholarship support is available to assist students to attend
the 38th Annual Glass Art Society Conference
Portland, Oregon, June 19-21, 2008

To be considered GAS must receive application materials by February 15, 2008.

STUDENT  SCHOLARSHIPS  AVAILABLE
Student scholarships provide financial support for attendance at the GAS conference and are open to full-time student members of GAS, current through June 2008. The application process is juried.

General Scholarships
All full-time student members of GAS are eligible for this scholarship.

Takako Sano Scholarship
Students living outside of the United States are eligible for assistance through the Takako Sano Scholarship Fund.  One award of $1,000 USD will be given.

Becky Winship Flameworking Scholarship
Students whose work uses flameworking techniques are eligible for this scholarship, generously funded by Winship Designs.  One award of $1,000 USD will be given.

HOW TO APPLY:
One application allows you to be considered for all scholarships, if eligible.

Send:
1.
 Letter of intent, two (2) pages maximum, stating why you would like to attend the conference.  Please indicate the school you are currently  attending and your current address, phone, and email.

2. One cd of five (5) maximum jpeg images (cd and images each labeled with your last name, eg. 01_Smith.jpg), 150-300dpi, maximum 800 pixels any width*.

3. Image Description sheet with the following details about each image:
    a. Your name
    b. Title of the piece
    c. Year of creation
    d. Materials and technique used
    e. Dimensions of the piece
    *Images should be numbered to correspond with the image description sheet.

4. Brief artist statement, one (1) page maximum or 300 word max, about the work submitted.

5. GAS Membership form and photocopy of current student ID (or other proof of full-time student status) if NOT a current student member. * A GAS membership form can be printed from our website http://www.glassart.org/ or call 206-382-1305.
