GAS, in partnership with the Museum of Glass, offers an exciting Collectors’ Tour Package including the tours below, registration for the GAS conference, Glass Lovers’ Dinner at Magill Estates, Pre-Conference Reception, Opening Ceremony, Closing Night Party, and Auction. It will be two weeks of travel, festivities, artists, and glass!

Arrive in Sydney in the morning and bus from the airport to the hotel for brunch to leisurely start your first day, with an optional trip by ferry to the Taronga Zoo. That evening, tour the Sydney Opera House, visit Object at Sydney Opera House for a viewing of Vast Terrain – Australian Aluminum Design, and dine at Guillaume at Bennelong in the southern shell of the Opera House, with one of the most stunning views of Sydney Harbour. On the following two days, visit the studios of glass artists Brian Hirst, Warren Langley, Robert Wynne, Ben Edols and Kathy Elliot. Explore private collections focused both on Australian glass and contemporary art, including a collection that houses work by winners of the prestigious Ranamok Prize. Attend private receptions and tours of the Glass Artists’ Gallery, Object Gallery(Contemporary Jewelry from Japan), Raglan Gallery (Toward the Inner – Avec Le Verre), and Höglund Art Glass (Painted Graal); tour the Aboriginal collection at the Art Gallery of New South Wales; and dine at Aria Restaurant, known for its contemporary Australian cuisine with a French influence. Your final day in Sydney is open for you to roam.

A renaissance has taken place in the Australian glass community, and much of it is focused at Australian National University’s Glass Workshop in Canberra. Visit the studios of Kirstie Rea, Scott Chaseling, and Richard Whiteley; tour the National Gallery of Australia with Curator of Decorative Arts Robert Bell; and have lunch in the sculpture garden. A private reception and dinner will be held in your honor at Beaver Galleries, showing Canberra glass artists. Tour the School of Art Glass Workshop, with demonstrations by visiting international artists; the Drill Hall Gallery (The Artist’s Studio); and enjoy a luncheon and tour at Kamberra Wines, followed with a tour of Craft ACT Gallery (Geometry, Rhythm, Light: Glass and the Everyday). Attend the Opening Reception of the Glass Workshop’s 20th Anniversary Exhibition.

Visit Blue Pony Studios, where glass artists Clare Belfrage, Gabriella Bisetto, Tim Edwards, Deb Jones, Jessica Loughlin, and Tom Moore create their work. Tour the celebrated Barossa Valley to explore prominent wineries and enjoy a luncheon at Collingrove Homestead. Attend opening receptions at the JamFactory (Nick Mount’s solo exhibition; an exhibition of glass in jewelry, All That Glitters; and work by Matthew Larwood), and the special GAS fundraiser, Glass Lovers' Gourmet Dinner, at Magill Estates, one of South Australia’s finest dining venues (see Special Conference Events). Visit the studio of Giles Bettison, followed by a trek in the Adelaide Hills. Join Dan Klein, recognized author and expert in studio glass, on a tour that includes tea and a preview of an international glass exhibition at Aptos Cruz Gallery, a visit to Gerry King’s studio, and lunch at Petaluma’s Bridgewater Mill, awarded “Australia’s Best Restaurant in a Winery” by the Australian Restaurant and Catering Association. Visit one of the country’s premier contemporary art private collections, and conclude the evening with the GAS Pre-Conference Reception at the National Wine Centre of Australia (see Special Conference Events).

Registering for the Tour
You must register in advance to attend the Collectors’ Tour. Sign up for the tour on the registration form. All tour participants are asked to be current GAS or Ausglass members. Registration for the GAS conference, Glass Lovers’ Gourmet Dinner, and Pre-Conference Reception is included with the tour package.
Registration deadline for the Collectors’ Tour is February 1, 2005.
Minimum number needed for Collectors’ Tours: 20. GAS reserves the right to cancel the tours if minimum capacity is not filled by February 1, 2005. Please note that the itinerary is subject to change.
